X-Ray Ulcer

definition

Irradiation of the skin with 12 - 15 Gray or repeated irradiation with a smaller dose result in chronic radiodermatitis after 2 years or more. In the atrophic centre of radiodermatitis, there is poor circulation and chronic inflammation which leads to a central ulceration due to minor trauma or to inadequate tissue oxygen supply. Roentgen ulcers are characterized by their poor healing.
