Severe generalized disorder in a small percentage of patients with psoriasis. Generally it occurs following excessive ultraviolet exposure or as a complication of aggressive topical therapy or systemical viral or bacterial disease. Chronic psoriasis may also gradually evolve into an exfoliative phase. In psoriatic erythroderma, the skin is almost totally involved, with deep erythema, exfoliation, and associated abnormalities of temperature and cardiovascular regulation.
