definitionThe most common form of mastocytosis. It occurs primarily in children and is characterized by multiple persistent small, reddish-brown, hyperpigmented, pruritic macules and papules due to an increased number of mast cells. They are located most commonly on the trunk, but are also seen on the extremities, head, and neck. Friction leads to the release of histamine and wheal formation in the lesions (Darier’s sign), sometimes with blistering. Involvement of internal organs may occur. | synonymsUrticaria Pigmentosa |
