Non-scarring alopecia resulting from the forceful extraction of hair or the breaking of hair shafts by friction, traction, or other physical trauma. Common causes include trichotillomania, a self-induced alopecia caused by plucking or pulling the hair, and pressure, such as seen on the occiput of infants who lie on their backs or who have a habit of head banging.
