Ichthyosis Acquisita

definition

Disorder clinically and histologically similar to ichthyosis vulgaris which may develop in patients of any age with certain forms of malignant disease and infectious diseases, in dietary and vitamin deficiencies (Vitamin A deficiency, pellagra), as a side-effect of cholesterol-lowering drugs, in dialysis patients, hypothyroidism or without apparent cause. It has most frequently been reported in association with Hodgkin’s disease, but it also occurs in association with mycosis fungoides, other malignant lymphomas, Kaposi’s sarcoma and visceral carcinomas. Ichthyosis acquisita may occur in patients suffering from leprosy, tuberculosis, AIDS and typhoid fever.
