Granuloma Gluteale Infantum

definition

Benign disorder of infancy characterized by reddish-purple granulomatous nodules that measure up to 4 cm in diameter and occur on the inner thighs, buttocks, lower aspect of the abdomen, penis and intertriginous areas. Occlusion from diapers, the use of potent topical steroids and Candida colonisation appear to be important components in the pathogenesis of this disorder. The condition tends to disappear spontaneously over a period of a few months.
