Generalised Pustular Psoriasis, von Zumbusch Type

definition

Uncommon, severe variant of psoriasis vulgaris characterized by an explosive generalized eruption associated with high fever and leukocytosis. Acute erythema is seen, with numerous sterile pustules located diffusely over the body, which spread rapidly to uninvolved areas of the skin, with a predisposition to the flexures, genital regions, and regions about the fingernails. The disorder may be provoked by irritating topical therapy, infection, pregnancy, certain drugs and withdrawal of systemic steroid therapy.
