Erythema Elevatum Diutinum

definition

Chronic, low-grade form of leukocytoclastic vasculitis characterized by bilateral, red, purple, and yellowish papules and plaques with a predilection for the extensor surfaces of the joints. The lesions occur on the elbows and knees, around the wrists and ankles or on the buttocks. Although soft at first, they become firm and fibrous with time. The lesions eventually heal without scarring, leaving hyperpigmentation.
