definitionA moderately firm, benign, encapsulated tumour resulting from proliferation of Schwann cells in a disorderly pattern that includes portions of nerve fibers. With neurilemmomas, neurofibromas make up at least 65% of all neurogenic tumours, and about 66% to 75% will be found in the upper half of the chest. Dermal or nodular forms are found in neurofibromatosis type 1, associated with café-au-lait spots. |
