definitionPin-head or larger yellow papules with an erythematous base occurring most commonly on the buttocks, shoulders and extensor surfaces of the extremities. They may cause pruritus and itching. Eruptive xanthomas are usually seen in patients with hypertriglyceridaemia and a high concentration of VLDL (Very Low Density Lipoprotein) or chylomicrons and are therefore associated with different types of hyperlipoproteinaemia. They may also be seen in secondary hyperlipidaemia in children with poorly controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus. | synonymsXanthoma, Eruptive |
