Candida Onychomycosis and Paronychia

definition

Candida infection of the nail plate most often presents as onycholysis associated with paronychia, although complete destruction of the nail plate and erosion of the distal and lateral nail plate of the fingernails without total nail dystrophy are also seen. Clinically, it cannot be distinguished with certainty from tinea unguium caused by dermatophytes.
