definitionMost common form of ichthyosis characterized by prominent scaling especially on the extensor surfaces of the extremities and the entire trunk. The face and scalp are often affected only by fine, dry scales; there may also be moderate diffuse alopecia. The normal markings of the palms and soles are exaggerated. The production of sweat and sebum is reduced, the skin is dry, particularly in the winter months.
