Acrogeria Gottron

definition

Disorder characterized by cutaneous atrophy and loss of subcutaneous fat beginning at birth or shortly afterwards. The distal extremities are particularly affected, but changes may occur on the face and trunk, too. The skin becomes dry, thin, transparent and wrinkled, and there may be easy bruising and telangiectasia. The lack of subcutaneous fat accentuates the appearance of premature senility. Hair and eyes are normal. There is no tendency to atheroma or diabetes mellitus, and life expectancy is normal.
